Regional exchange of experiences in the fight against human trafficking

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, October 29 (FENA) - A regional exchange of experiences, good practices and challenges faced by Mobile Identification Teams for identifying potential victims of human trafficking in the region is currently underway.

Representatives of the competent government bodies, the non-governmental sector and international organizations involved in the fight against human trafficking from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo, North Macedonia and Serbia are participating in the exchange, said World Vision BiH today.

"Timely and efficient identification of victims is a crucial aspect in the overall fight against human trafficking. The process of criminal prosecution of traffickers also depends on such identification, but also the process of providing protection and assistance to victims of human trafficking," said Samir Rizvo from the Office of the State Coordinator for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings at the Ministry of Security of BiH.

The identification of potential victims is one of the most demanding aspects of the fight against trafficking in human beings, which is further complicated by the deteriorating economic situation due to the pandemic, comprehensive digitization process and unpredictable migration flows.

The manager of one of the projects through which World Vision BiH contributes to tackling the problem of human trafficking, Dragana Bulić, said that in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mobile Identification Teams recognize children and people with threatened social status, children from the Roma population and children and people on the move as high groups, as the ones in high-risk to suffer from human trafficking.

The mobile identification of potential victims of human trafficking is one of the proactive ways to address this insufficiently visible problem in BiH, but also in the region. Mobile teams operate and work at the local community level, know the local environment, and through their work, gain the trust of the most vulnerable population and represent one of the key links in the anti-trafficking system.

The mobile teams in BiH are currently under the auspices of the NGO sector.

The exchange was organized under the auspices of the regional project 'Improving the Identification and Resilience of (Potential) Victims of Trafficking in the Western Balkans', implemented by World Vision International in BiH, with the support of the German International Cooperation Agency (GIZ) acting on behalf of the German Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

The project strengthens regional exchange and upgrade of good practices in mobile identification of (potential) victims of trafficking and leads to improved approach/model of mobile identification teams, its testing and operationalization at locations to be selected during the next phase of the project, said World Vision BiH.
