SARAJEVO, October 29 (FENA) - Today, the National and University Library (NUB) of Bosnia and Herzegovina marked 75 years of existence and work with a solemn ceremony, exhibition, and video projection.
The general sponsor of the ceremony of the NUB BiH, a library that inherits treasures that testify to the past of our country, is the Chairman of the Presidency of BiH, Šefik Džaferović.
The director of the National and University Library, Ismet Ovčina, said in his welcome address that he was proud to be at the head of the institution that marks such a significant jubilee.
He referred to the unresolved legal and financial status, expressing hope that this will change in the near future.
- We are sad that the mayor of the City of Sarajevo did not find time to sit down for four years of his mandate and try to get at least a part of the NUB capacity into the City Hall - said Ovčina.
The Rector of the University of Sarajevo, Rifat Škrijelj, emphasized that the NUB BiH is one of the important institutions and the guardian of written creation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as in this part of Europe and the Balkans.
- The institution that survived defying all troubles has preserved written material and serious evidence of the tradition of creativity in BiH, the Balkans, and this part of Europe - said the rector of UNSA.
Amel Suljović, advisor to the Chairman of the Presidency of BiH, Šefik Džaferović, also addressed the audience.
He also said that a thorough revision of the attitude towards the national treasure of BiH is needed.
