SARAJEVO, October 30 (FENA) - Topics focused this year by members of women's associations, members of the Women's Network of Bosnia and Herzegovina, women human rights defenders, representatives of institutions and the international community were presented at a three-day conference on Feminist Pledge Policy in BiH.

The conference, which brought together these categories of society in the fight for women's rights, was organized by the CURE Foundation in cooperation with the Women's Empowerment Foundation within the project "Women's Rights - Agenda for Positive Change", funded by the European Union, within the project "Feminist Pledge Policy in Bosnia and Herzegovina" supported by Kvinna till Kvinna.

Participants shared their experiences of activism during the Covid-19 pandemic, and how much the pandemic affected women's rights on the issue of social justice policy, and presented the initiatives of citizens. They also talked about gender-responsive policies and cooperation with public institutions.

Manager of the Project "Women's Rights - Agenda for Positive Change" Vedrana Frašto said at a press conference how important is the cooperation between institutions at the local level and non-governmental organizations dealing with women's rights with a special focus on minority and marginalized groups.

“Women's organizations work in the field and talk to women, listen to and recognize their needs, and based on them create recommendations for institutions on the real needs of women at the local level. The work of active non-governmental organizations should not be ignored because it is a bridge between the needs of women and the institutions that are obliged to respond to them,” Frašto explained.

Maida Zagorac, an independent consultant on the issue of economic empowerment of women at the CURE Foundation, noted that they have been working for two years on economic empowerment of women who are members of vulnerable groups in the Federation of BiH with a special focus on women survivors of domestic violence.

This work began after a positive practice from Republika Srpska where the Employment Bureau recognized women survivors of domestic violence as a particularly vulnerable group by providing incentives for their economic empowerment.

Executive Director of the Romani Association Ćej Prnjavor, Snježana Mirković, spoke about the problems identified by women in their local community, such as the unavailability of medical examinations and domestic violence, and workshops were attended by women from the government who can influence change.

Commenting on the political empowerment of women, Mirković said that in Prnjavor, two Roma women are on the lists for the Municipal Council, which is important in order to raise awareness among women from marginalized groups.
