SARAJEVO, November 5 (FENA) - Archbishop of Vrhbosna Cardinal Vinko Puljić, President of the Bishops' Conference of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BKBiH), called today for dialogue, mutual respect and improvement of cooperation in times of numerous temptations resulting from the coronavirus pandemic and other crises which we witness.
"The message we wanted to send with our session in this complex situation of a pandemic, and all other crises that appear, and one of the strongest refers to the absence of dialogue. There is less and less dialogue and we would like to create an atmosphere of positive cooperation," said Cardinal Puljić at a press conference in Sarajevo after the two-day session of the Bishops' Conference.
He pointed out that the past cannot be ignored, but also that he does not want to dwell on it, "but to state the facts and create the courage to work openly on the foundations of faith and morals in the future."
Commenting on the content of the session, and answering journalists' inquiries, Cardinal Puljić reminded that one of the issues discussed referred to the 25th anniversary of the signing of the General Framework Agreement for Peace in BiH, known as the Dayton Agreement.
He said in that context that, unfortunately, what the bishops said was confirmed immediately after the signing of the Dayton Agreement, saying that the agreement was not stable peacebuilding and that it was, in fact, the legalization of 'ethnic cleansing'.
Responding to a question regarding the restitution of the property of religious communities, the cardinal stated that the law in this regard had been proposed a long time ago and that it had been put 'in a drawer' while ignoring the issue continued.
“Unfortunately, these assets are being re-registered and sold, instead of being returned to the owners,” said Puljić, stating that the Interreligious Council of BiH has taken a clear position in this regard.
