ISTANBUL, November 6 (FENA) - Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Šefik Džaferović talked today in Istanbul with President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan about numerous topics of importance to both countries, one of which was the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic, writes FENA's report from Istanbul.

President Erdogan informed Džaferović that Turkey would receive coronavirus vaccines in the coming months and that some of these vaccines would be given to BiH.

“Turkey has so far helped BiH in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic and will continue to do so. Turkey will get the vaccine very soon, and the readiness for that help has been expressed even today, and it will include vaccines,” Džaferović explained.

As Džaferović said in an interview for FENA, President Erdogan was primarily interested in the political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Džaferović conveyed in detail all the elements of the current situation.

“Erdogan reiterated that Turkey supports stability and peace in BiH, reforms, BiH's European and NATO path, as well as the sovereignty and territorial integrity of BiH,” Džaferović added.

The officials also discussed bilateral relations in the political, economic and cultural fields.

Džaferović said that the political relations are extraordinary, but there is always room for improvement, the coronavirus pandemic has slowed down mutual encounters, but relations will continue to develop at an even higher level than has been the case so far.

A special aspect of today's conversation was the economic cooperation and support of the Republic of Turkey to the economy of BiH. Turkey and BiH signed a Free Trade Agreement last year, and BiH has been given a regime when it comes to exporting BiH goods to the Turkish market, which few countries in the world have.

“BiH has not yet used all the possibilities of the Free Trade Agreement and we need to see what needs to be done because the goal is to increase trade from the current between 720 and 730 million euros to one billion euros annually,” Džaferović explained.

That is the goal, he added, for this year, although it is not known how much success will be achieved due to the coronavirus pandemic, it should be achieved in the next period.

Also, the topic of conversation was the construction of the Sarajevo-Belgrade motorway. Last year, a Memorandum was concluded with Turkey, and now it is necessary to conclude an interstate agreement with all the elements and start the construction of the motorway as soon as possible.

They also talked about cooperation in other areas as well, such as the military industry, agriculture and further investment of Turkey in BiH, specifically to build factories that Turkish businessmen have in Serbia, which deal with textiles.

As the Chairman of the Presidency of BiH, Šefik Džaferović, concluded, today's meeting confirmed the good relations between the Republic of Turkey and Bosnia and Herzegovina, and it gave an incentive for them to strengthen in the future.
