SARAJEVO, November 18 (FENA) - Deputy Minister of Communications and Transport of Bosnia and Herzegovina Nedžad Branković, at the invitation of the Director of Sustainable Transport Division at the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Yuwei Li, participated in an online workshop "The Development of international passenger rail transport in the context of ITC Resolution No. 264".
After the introductory speeches, Branković gave a presentation on the revitalization of passenger rail traffic, emphasizing the important role of railways in our country in the previous period, the Ministry of Communications and Transport of BiH said.
“About 70 years ago, the railway network in Bosnia and Herzegovina was 60 percent larger than today. However, the development in our country has brought with it the decline of railway transport, especially passenger transport,” Branković pointed out.
He emphasized that the alignment of our legislation with the transport acquis would create the preconditions for the application of the principles of improving rail passenger transport at border crossings with neighboring countries, especially in the context of facilitating border crossings for passengers and luggage, all in the context of Resolution No.264.
The main goal of this workshop is to discuss ways to facilitate the international movement of passengers by rail, with special emphasis on the ways of growth of this sector after the pandemic caused by coronavirus, said the Ministry of Communications and Transport of BiH.
