Strengthen media capacity to promote media and information literacy

SARAJEVO, December 9 (FENA) - As part of the development and promotion of media and information literacy, the Faculty of Political Science at the University of Sarajevo organized an interactive workshop "Strengthening media capacity to promote media and information literacy and positive storytelling".

The aim of the interactive workshop is to exchange opinions and practical experiences in working with journalists and editors and to emphasize the challenges and problems in their work when it comes to media and information literacy and positive storytelling.

Head of the Institute for Social Research, Faculty of Political Science, University of Sarajevo doc. dr. Emir Vajzović spoke about media and information literacy in Bosnia and Herzegovina, saying that it is a process based on lifelong learning.

“That is the umbrella competence that is needed by the society that has undergone a transformation, and our society and the entire region already is,” Vajzović added.

From the Faculty of Philosophy, University of East Sarajevo doc. dr. Vuk Vučetić spoke about the role of journalists in the promotion of media and information literacy.

Vučetić paid special attention to the numerous newsrooms that are being set up to deal with fact-checking, and he cited several examples that check published news with the help of technology, but those that call for more analytical reporting.

The interactive workshop is part of the Joint Regional Program "Dialogue for the Future", implemented in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, and Serbia by UNESCO, UNICEF, and UNDP.
