SARAJEVO, December 14 (FENA) - Raisu-l-ulama of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina Hussein ef. Kavazović said today at the video conference "Keeping peace, remembering victims", organized by the Srebrenica Memorial Center on the occasion of the anniversary of the signing of the General Framework Agreement for Peace, that there is still institutional denial of genocide and other crimes.
“This must stop because any denial of mass crimes leads to a new traumatization of survivors and members of their families. Accepting the truth and mutual respect for all citizens and peoples in BiH is the only way to a better and more secure future. The past must not be forgotten and we should get rid of what hinders our country’s development and what drives its inhabitants out of it, that is in the interest of everyone,” said Kavazović.
Stating that 25 years ago the world stopped the aggression on BiH and forced the aggressor to sign a peace agreement, he believes that the peace agreement stopped the suffering of the people, but did not eliminate the political and economic aggression on BiH that continues to this day.
“The denial of crimes has continued, our people are still stigmatized and denied, the weakening of crimes has continued with the tacit consent of the governments of our neighboring countries. It is time for the civilized world to stop denying the crimes of genocide in Srebrenica after 25 years when our neighbors do not want to do it. Those who persist in denying the crimes of genocide in Srebrenica and refuse to accept the verdicts of the international courts in The Hague deserve to be defeated and removed from the public scene,” said Kavazović, the Srebrenica Memorial Center announced.
