SARAJEVO, December 14 (FENA) - Member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Željko Komšić addressed today at the video conference "Keeping peace, remembering victims" organized by the Srebrenica Memorial Center, noting that the victims called for peace and justice, and not to conflict and revenge.
He reminded that the General Framework Agreement for Peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina was signed in Paris 25 years ago, i.e. the Dayton Agreement, which ended the aggression against the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina after almost four years of suffering, during which genocide was committed against its citizens.
“Today we can say with certainty that the agreement itself was not fair, but it was necessary at that time, necessary in order to stop the unprecedented suffering that people in this country are experiencing,” said Komšić.
He believes that after the genocide in Srebrenica, it was difficult to expect any justice, and when such evil happens, a reasonable person no longer knows what justice is, but he knows what is true.
“It is true that the responsibility for the genocide in Srebrenica, in addition to the Greater Serbia regime, also lies with the United Nations, which allowed genocide to be committed in the zone under their protection. The people of this country have endured various injustices throughout history, but I dare say that they have always been on the side of truth,” he added.
However, he emphasized, the truth is again what is difficult to respect today, and without the truth there is no justice or a better life, which is why he is of the opinion that the fight for the truth should never be given up because if it is advocated, lies will prevail.
“We see this in the last days when those who glorify war criminals, by force of circumstances, are slowly giving up. We would never have given up if we who survived had not told the truth. That truth has never been in the function of anything other than the function of peace,” said Komšić.
