THE HAGUE/SARAJEVO, December 15 (FENA) - Addressing the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), Carmel Agius, president of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), said Ratko Mladić, Jovica Stanišić, and Franko Simatović are to be sentenced in May 2021.
Agius said that 2020 put the Mechanism to the test more than any other and that it was extremely important to continue the work of this institution despite the challenges of the coronavirus pandemic.
“If it were not for COVID-19, the mechanism would have completed the existing trials this year, as I predicted last December,” said Agius, BIRN BiH - Detektor.ba reports.
He stated that the appeals against the first-instance verdict against Ratko Mladić were made in August this year and that the case should be completed in May 2021.
