SARAJEVO, December 16 (FENA) - The BiH Presidency member and President of the Democratic Front (DF) Željko Komšić confirmed at a press conference today that the DF caucus has submitted six draft laws into the parliamentary procedure regarding the implementation of burning issues related to the Opinion of the European Commission for candidate status for BiH membership in the European Union.

"These are the proposal to amend the Constitution, amendments to the Election Law, the Law on Public Procurement, and three laws that regulate everything that has been regulated by one law so far, and that is the work of the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council (HJPC). We have had the opportunity to see so far whether there was a sufficient majority in the state parliament for such proposals," said Komšić.

If both houses of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly adopt the proposed laws, the DF believes that "Bosnia and Herzegovina next year would have a real chance of obtaining a candidate status for membership in the European Union."

"During this year, through the parliamentary procedure in the PA BiH, the DF caucus submitted six strategic systemic pieces of legislation.

We started with amendments to the Election Law and accompanying constitutional amendments in order to resolve the issue of implementation of judgments of domestic and international courts, with an emphasis on resolving judgments of the European Court of Human Rights. Also, the DF caucus submitted a new law on public procurement in BiH to the procedure with the aim of strengthening transparency and legal mechanisms for preventing corruption and organized crime," said the chairman of the DF caucus in the BiH PA, Dženan Đonlagić.

Last week, a set of three laws were sent to the parliamentary procedure, concerning the reform of the judiciary in BiH. The goal is to institutionally prevent certain phenomena or some new judicial affairs.

According to Komšić, the six strategic laws aim to produce a single result, and that is to comply with 14 recommendations from the Opinion of the European Commission.

"The capacity of us in BiH to realize all of this will be shown through parliamentary procedures and activities, primarily by the people who are in political positions as well as political parties that have the opportunity to make decisions regarding the fulfillment of these key priorities," Komšić emphasized.
