SARAJEVO, December 17 (FENA) - The epidemiological situation in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina has stabilized. Due to the upcoming New Year's holidays, the situation in January, we should not allow the situation in January to escalate again, said Assistant Minister, Goran Čerkez at a press conference of the Crisis Staff of the FBiH Ministry of Health, with a warning that two difficult winter months are ahead of us.

Currently, even without a lockdown, the number of deaths is declining in the Federation of BiH, the number of newly infected with coronavirus is also dropping by more than ten percent and the number of hospitalized by more than 13 percent, while the number of patients on ventilators is still between 50 and 60.

The previously prescribed epidemiological measures remain in force, said Čerkez, and called on the population to continue to adhere to them, which most of them have done so far, thus contributing to the stabilization of the situation.

There will be no organized New Year's Eve celebrations in the Federation of BiH before or after 11 pm, underlined Čerkez.

For hoteliers also, the same rules apply in the catering sector as well, including cafes, bars and restaurants, he added.

Recommendations for ski resorts will follow on Sunday, and the most important measure is to keep the physical distance.

Čerkez announced intensified police and inspection controls of compliance with the measures for the New Year's holidays.

"We believe that there will be no need for repressive measures because we see that the majority of citizens respect the recommendations," he said.

Regarding cross-border communication and travel, the FBiH Ministry of Health has proposed to the Ministry of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina to prescribe PCR testing for all people coming from abroad to Bosnia and Herzegovina, including travelers from neighboring countries.

It is also recommended to prescribe PCR testing or a certain period of isolation for BiH citizens who come from countries with a higher percentage of infected among the population.

A response has not yet arrived from the state level, said Čerkez, and added the FBiH Crisis Staff is investing a lot of effort to harmonize the measures with the entity of Republika Srpska.

Asked about the controversial procurement of vaccines against COVID 19 in the Federation of BiH, which was discussed in yesterday in the media, Čerkez stated that there was no problem with money, but it was an issue of procedurally short deadline for payment.

"We are doing the maximum we can and we will finish that job," said Cerkez, noting that they are also working on the immunization plan and that things will not be left to chance.
