Toudic: Damage to ecosystems will have major consequences for lifestyle

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, January 6 (FENA) - The global sanitary crisis caused by Covid-19 has reminded us, in a dramatic way, of the important role of nature in our lives and economy, as well as that biodiversity is our life insurance, said French Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina Christine Toudic.

She published a blog on the occasion of the event that will be held in Paris on January 11, in agreement with the United Nations and the World Bank, on biological diversity "One Planet Summit".

As she stated, the damage to ecosystems is unprecedented and will have great consequences on the lifestyle in the coming decades.

“France will organize One Planet Summit to show that it is possible to act in the opposite direction by applying concrete and innovative solutions in order to reduce the pressure on nature,” she stressed.

This event, along with President of the Republic of France Emmanuel Macron, will bring together heads of state as well as leaders of international organizations, financial institutions, the economic sector and non-governmental organizations who will make a strong commitment to protecting and preserving biodiversity.

It will be an opportunity to raise the level of ambition of the international community regarding nature protection, but also to answer new questions arising from the crisis.

The Ambassador stated that the protection of terrestrial and marine ecosystems is a basic pillar of action in favor of biodiversity because protected areas and the conservation of species living there play a key role in protecting and restoring biodiversity and are a decisive factor in reversing the current trend.

The promotion of agroecology makes it possible to protect the diversity of ecosystems by reducing pollution, and at the same time, it provides an opportunity to create jobs and work in favor of food security.

Also, the mobilization of financial resources for biodiversity has been initiated, especially through new innovative investments and initiatives that enable public and private investments to be directed towards projects of protection, sustainable management and restoration of ecosystems, i.e. necessary convergence of climate public finances and biodiversity.

“It is about our planet, but also our future, the future of our children and the future of their children. This concerns all of us,” concluded the Ambassador of France to BiH Christine Toudic.

She invited everyone to participate in the summit through a digital platform through which it will be possible to communicate with high-ranking personalities who will answer questions.
