Salkić visits Veljaci Memorial Center and pays tribute to the victims

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, January 10 (FENA) - The Vice President of the RS entity in BiH, Ramiz Salkić on Saturday visited the Veljaci Memorial Center in Bratunac, where the victims of the 1992 war crimes had been buried, where he laid flowers and paid tribute to the victims.

During the visit to the Veljaci Memorial Center, the families of the victims of genocide, representatives of the victims' associations, the Islamic Community and representatives of Bosniaks in the local government also attended the ceremony.

Salkić pointed out that it is high time for the civilized world to change its approach, protect victims and descendants of genocide victims from those carrying out the final phase of genocide, and to separate the area where genocide had been committed from the administrative management of those who deny genocide and glorify war criminals.

"In the times ahead, additional efforts should be made to eliminate the injustices committed through the Dayton Peace Agreement towards the victims of genocide and their descendants. One of them is that the area where the proven and adjudicated genocide was committed should not be under the administration of those who deny genocide, glorify war criminals and discriminate against survivors and descendants of genocide victims," stated Salkić.

Istakao je da je počinjeni, dokazani i presuđeni genocid počinila vojska i dijelovi policije bosanskih Srba nad stanovništvom koje je bilo pod zaštitom Ujedinjenih nacija i danas pred očima cijelog svijeta predstavnici bosanskih Srba provode završnu fazu genocida ponovo bez bilo kakve reakcije civiliziranog svijeta.

He pointed out that the committed, proven genocide was committed by the Bosnian Serb army and the police over the population under the protection of the United Nations and today, in front of the whole world, Bosnian Serb representatives are carrying out the final phase of genocide again, without any reaction from the civilized world.

He believes it is high time for the civilized world to change its approach, protect victims and descendants of genocide victims from those carrying out the final phase of genocide, and to separate the area where genocide was committed, proven and adjudicated from those who deny genocide and glorify war criminals.

"After 25 years, it is high time to remove the discriminatory name of that entity from which the exclusivity of Bosnian Serbs in the territory draws its power, which results in discrimination against all other people, non-Orthodox Serbs in all segments of society in that entity. The name deeply offends the feelings of the survivors of the genocide and the joint criminal enterprise of the Bosnian Serb military and political leadership, for which they were convicted before the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in The Hague," Salkić emphasized.

He added that it was necessary to do all this because Bosnian Serb representatives have not gone through a catharsis in the past 25 years, have not acknowledged the genocide, have not distanced themselves from war criminals, have not established a system of equal values for all citizens in the entity, but quite contrary,  they are doing everything opposite of this in order to realize their wartime goals by peacetime methods.

"All those who care about Bosnia and Herzegovina, a country of equal rights and equal opportunities for all its citizens, regardless of their name and how they pray to God, should gather around these goals. Without correcting these injustices, the disappearance of Bosniaks in the next generations in this part of Bosnia and Herzegovina is inevitable, and thus the survival of the whole of Bosnia and Herzegovina is threatened.

"The continuation of the marking of the unconstitutional and unlawful January 9 as the day of this entity is one of the proofs of the necessity of these steps in the future. The best proof of that is the denial of court verdicts, the glorification of war criminals, denial of genocide, the humiliation of victims and discrimination against those who have returned to their homes, which results in the returnees again fleeing from their homes suffering all kinds of pressure on a daily basis," underlined Salkić.
