SARAJEVO, January 11 (FENA) - Prime Minister of the Sarajevo Canton Edin Forto spoke on the phone today with US Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina Eric Nelson, who reaffirmed the US administration's commitment to the reforms initiated and announced in the Sarajevo Canton, as well as readiness to provide support and assistance in their implementation, Press Service of the Sarajevo Canton announced.
“We are ready to help make Sarajevo Canton an example of what can be done when the policy of division is replaced by a focus on reforms that will improve the lives of every citizen,” they pointed out from the US Embassy.
Mitigating the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic on the quality of life of the residents of Sarajevo Canton was the main topic of today's conversation.
The interlocutors talked about projects to improve the public health system in the Sarajevo Canton, and about continuing the fight against corruption through even more intensive activities of the government's Office for the Fight against Corruption. They also discussed reforms in the police sector.
“I am concerned about the fact that our two most important priorities have been slowed down by higher levels of government. I am thinking here primarily of the lack of response to the health crisis due to the coronavirus pandemic. Unfortunately, we do not have information when we will receive vaccines, while the countries in our region have already started vaccinating,” Forto pointed out.
Prime Minister Forto believes that the lack of reaction from higher levels of government is hampering efforts to combat the negative economic consequences of the pandemic.
