BIHAĆ, January 20 (FENA) - President of the Red Cross of the Una-Sana Canton (USC) Husein Kličić confirmed that migrants and refugees in that part of Bosnia and Herzegovina have finally been provided with more acceptable living conditions.

"These are not ideal conditions, but we have made great efforts to provide more dignified accommodation and necessities, especially to the people at the Lipa camp near Bihać. About 900 people at this location are housed in tents of the BiH Armed Forces, which are adequately heated. The issue of sanitary facilities has been resolved, and the supply of drinking water is being accelerated. There should be little understanding, given that the meteorological conditions did not allow for the urgent realization of some things," said Kličić.

Meals and other necessities of life are provided on a daily basis, as well as regular medical care in the field.

"The cantonal organization of the Red Cross provides breakfast and a ration pack for dinner, while the Red Cross has undertaken to prepare and distribute cooked food, so we can say that people in Lipa have three meals a day. We have great help and engagement of our donors, partners and other humanitarian organizations, so in the past period we have provided and distributed a sufficient amount of jackets, hats, gloves, shoes and blankets," added the president of the Cantonal Organization of the Red Cross USC.

Mobile teams regularly visit people in improvised tent settlements, i.e. those who are on the move, and the latest information shows that the number of such people has decreased. The Una-Sana Canton Police also confirmed that a number of people from public areas had been relocated to existing reception camps.

“We know that several families with children who stayed in such improvised camps around Velika Kladuša, Cazin and Bužim have been accommodated in the reception centers "Sedra" and "Borići". We cannot confirm whether there were more such activities, but also it used to happen that people from the street were accommodated in camps as soon as the necessary conditions were created for that ", said the spokesperson of the Una-Sana Canton Police, Ale Šiljdedić.

Between 3,500 and 4,000 migrants and refugees are currently staying in this canton.

"According to our data, about 3,000 people are housed in four local temporary reception camps. Information from the field also shows that between 500 and 1,000 migrants and refugees are staying in abandoned buildings, rented private accommodation, or makeshift tent camps. The current security situation is completely under control, and we will see what the arrival of warmer weather and a new possible influx of migrants in the area of our canton will bring," said Šiljdedić.

The citizens of Velika Kladuša, who helped these people in need, confirmed that the most endangered migrants from improvised tent settlements have found a place in the existing reception camps.
