BH Bloc rejects Coalition for Mostar's offer for a broader coalition with HDZBiH

FENA

MOSTAR, February 3 (FENA) - The BH Bloc (SDP BiH and Our Party) and the Coalition for Mostar (SDA, SBB, DF, Party for BIH, BPS), at a meeting held on Wednesday in Mostar, reached no agreement on who to support for the position of the Mayor of Mostar.

General Manager of the Cantonal Hospital "Dr. Safet Mujić" and the candidate of the "Coalition for Mostar 2020" for the mayor, Zlatko Guzin said that the Coalition made an "explicit offer" to the BH Bloc.

"We offered the Bloc forming of a broader coalition in the future City Council, which would include the Coalition for Mostar, the BH Bloc and the HDZ BiH. I think it would be a majority larger than two-thirds where the decisions could be passed without difficulties and I think that would satisfy everything that Mostar needs, quick adoption of legislation and rapid implementation of all Council decisions, but our offer was rejected," said Guzin.

He added that the Coalition would support Irma Baralija in the second and third rounds if she won more votes than him in the first round.

"However, we did not receive an affirmative answer to our question whether it would be the same vice versa, i.e. whether the BH Bloc would support me as a candidate," said Guzin.

The Vice President of Our Party, Irma Baralija, emphasized that it was agreed at the meeting that both of them would support all positive proposals once the City Council (CE) of Mostar is constituted.

"We insist on the implementation of the Sejdić-Finci judgment in the Council, and the Coalition for Mostar has expressed that it would not mind when the matter is discussed. When we talk about our program platforms, both of us are ready to support all the positive proposals stated in our programs, when the Council is formed. We did not agree on the coalition, but it is unquestionable that there will be enough support for all positive suggestions," said Baralija.

She pointed out that the BH Bloc is moving forward with her candidacy and the Coalition for Mostar with their own.

The first convocating session of the Mostar City Council will be held on Friday, February 5, and, according to the announcements of the new councilors, the leadership of that council should be elected then.

The election of a new mayor requires a two-thirds majority in the City Council, 24 out of 35 councilors. If, after two rounds of voting, none of the candidates receives the required two-thirds majority, in the last round, a simple majority, 18 councilors, will be sufficient.
