Bratić: Inzko's letter is an opportunity to show respect among nations

BANJA LUKA, February 4 (FENA) - A member of the parliamentary group "Together for BiH" in the RS National Assembly Senad Bratić, said that a letter from High Representative to BiH Valentin Inzko to RS Parliament Speaker Nedeljko Čubrilović is an opportunity to correct a mistake made by the Assembly's decision regarding the awarding of recognition to war criminals.

Namely, Inzko sent a letter to the leadership of the RS Entity Assembly and the presidents of all caucuses in that entity legislature, requesting that the charters granted by the Assembly to persons convicted of war crimes be annulled within three months.

Bratić believes that this is an opportunity for parties from the position and the opposition to show commitment to coexistence and to respect the Dayton Peace Agreement, but also enduring moral norms that war criminals cannot be glorified, regardless of who they are or where they come from.

He believes that the National Assembly of the RS will have the strength and will rise from daily politics and restore dignity to the legislature, which was violated after the decision was made more than four years ago.

“Convicted war criminals Radovan Karadžić, Momčilo Krajišnik and Biljana Plavšić cannot represent one nation. They have their name and surname, and like everyone else who participated in crimes in this area, they should be held accountable, not awarded recognitions and decorations,” Bratić emphasized.

This is necessary, he points out, in order to achieve BiH's progress on the path to full membership in the European Union, and to send a message that the peoples of BiH respect each other, just like they respect the European conventions and court rulings.

Such a letter is a chance, he says, for the deputies, which they will not miss, estimating that in that way they will show that life in this area is far better than before.

“As you know, the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia convicted Karadžić, Krajišnik and Plavšić of war crimes,” the letter reads.
