Rivers overflow and spill from their riverbeds in Podrinje Canton Goražde

GORAŽDE, January 9 (FENA) - High temperatures, melting snow and heavy rain in the past days caused a rise in water levels in the waters in the area of the Podrinje Canton (BPK) Goražde. In certain parts of the City of Goražde, rivers overflowed their banks, water levels are now slightly declining, and gravel roads have been damaged in almost all local communities.

Assistant Mayor for Civil Protection and Local Communities Samira Drakovac confirmed that the mechanization of road maintenance companies is on the ground in order to repair the damages from the flooding.

"What complicated the situation was the warm weather with unusually higher temperatures and large amounts of snow that began to melt fast, especially from the mountain pass Borovac, so that large amounts of snow and rain contributed to the swelling of watercourses and they spilled over," said Drakovac.

Due to the clogging of the drainage pipes, the road was flooded with torrential sediments blocking piling up. Also, the Orahovica - Brzača - Goražde road was blocked.

"The situation is much more favorable today, the rivers are slowly receding into the riverbeds and at the same time, the construction companies' mechanization that was on the ground last night invested superhuman efforts to keep the roads passable and prevent further devastation of road infrastructure. Citizens and their material property are not endangered," Drakovac explained.
