Kožul: Readmission agreements to solve the migrant crisis in BiH

SARAJEVO, February 16 (FENA) - At today's session, the Joint Committee on Defense and Security of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina adopted the initiative of HDZ MP Predrag Kožul, which called on the Council of Ministers to speed up the signing of bilateral readmission agreements.

The Committee sent a proposal to take all necessary actions to sign a readmission agreement with Afghanistan, Iraq, Bangladesh, Iran, Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco.

In a statement for the media today, Kožul explained that this is an initiative that is very simple in the parliamentary sense, but the final signing of the agreement will require diplomatic negotiations in order to resolve the issue of migrants from the countries most coming to BiH.

He reminded that BiH has already signed such an agreement with Pakistan, from which the largest number of migrants come, but he noted that due to the complexity of the procedures, the agreement is not operational yet.

“It is necessary to create pressure on the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH to work on these agreements in order to speed up these procedures in every possible way, because that is one of the key elements in resolving the migrant crisis in BiH,” Kožul believes.

Although the signing of these documents is preceded by a series of activities, Kožul points out that regardless of that, pressure should be applied to speed it up and the intention, he says, is to make it a priority as one of the key topics in the activities of both the BiH Council of Ministers and parliament.
