Fazlić: Things have been different since the state became actively involved in resolving the issue of migrants

BIHAĆ, February 24 (FENA) - The mayor of Bihać, Šuhret Fazlić, said in a conversation with FENA that since January, when the state became actively involved in resolving the issue of migrants, things in the Una-Sana Canton look completely different and improved.

He reminded that for three years they have been trying to point out that the local community has no jurisdiction when it comes to migrants and that the City of Bihać and Velika Kladuša are most exposed to a problem they cannot influence and that they are just victims.

“We asked and expected from the competent state institutions, and above all the Ministry of Security and the Ministry of Civil Affairs, to do everything necessary and try to manage these processes, and not to leave it to non-governmental organizations and United Nations agencies,” he underlined.

However, as Fazlić recalls, this did not happen until the closure of Bira and the problems in the Lipa camp when a major problem with migrants broke out in December, and in January the Ministry of Security, headed by Minister Selmo Cikotić, joined in resolving the issue.

“In the beginning of January, what we have been waiting for all the time happened when a meeting of Security and Defense Ministers Selmo Cikotić and Sifet Podžić, Chief of the Joint Staff of the BiH Armed Forces and representatives of the Service for Foreigners’ Affairs was held in Lipa,” Fazlić explained.

Now the situation in Bihać is completely different, says Fazlić, migrants are concentrated in two locations, namely the Borići Pupil's Home and the Lipa camp, where the largest number of migrants is.

The camp is managed by the Service for Foreigners’ Affairs, Fazlić points out, and there is no pressure on the City Administration in terms of organization and financial sense, since these activities are conducted by the Service, i.e. the Ministry of Security.

“Migrants are still the most important problem for Bihać and Velika Kladuša, but when it is managed and managed by the competent state institution, then the situation is very different,” Fazlić underlined.

Migrations as a process have their own dynamics, and if we talk about migrations from 2018 and 2021, they differ in terms of manifestations, says Fazlić, as well as situations when it comes to the USC.

The mayor of Bihać underlines that the city was run over by migrants several times and that there was no strategy that would bring long-term results.

“It is much easier now because the Ministry of Security and the Service for Foreigners’ Affairs and the Armed Forces have been involved in the whole process and it looks much better now,” he added.

In addition, he said, the Presidency of BiH and the Council of Ministers have been involved to a greater extent, which means that the state bodies are working much more intensively as it should be, concluded Fazlić.
