Keserović sentenced to six years in prison for taking part in the Syria war

SARAJEVO, February 25 (FENA) - The Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina hand down today a judgment in the case of Jasmin Keserović finding the accused Jasmin Keserović guilty of commission of the criminal offense of Organizing a Terrorist Group under Article 202d. (2) of the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CC BiH) in connection with Paragraph 1, all as read with Article 201 of the CC BiH, and the criminal offense of Encouraging Terrorist Activities in Public under Article 202a. of the CC BiH, all as read with Article 53 of the CC BiH.

For the criminal offense of Organizing a Terrorist Group under Article 202d. (2) of the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CC BiH) in connection with Paragraph 1 of the same Code, all as read with Article 201 of the CC BiH, the Court sentenced the accused Jasmin Keserović to imprisonment for a term of 3 years, and for the criminal offense of Encouraging Terrorist Activities in Public under Article 202a. of the CC BiH to imprisonment for a term of 5 years. In this regard, by applying Article 53(2) b) of the Criminal Code of BiH, the Court imposed on the accused a compound sentence of imprisonment for a term of 6 years. The time the accused spent in custody, running from 19 December 2019 onwards, shall be credited towards the imposed prison sentence.

The accused Jasmin Keserović has been found guilty because he had left the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and after arriving in Syria, became a member of the ISIL terrorist organization which had intended, by daily armed actions, namely attacks against the population, killings, unlawful imprisonment, taking hostages and other activities, to force the legitimate Syrian authorities to change the constitutional order and the political regime, where the accused stayed through 19 December 2019, participating in terrorist activities along with other persons from Bosnia and Herzegovina staying in Syria, providing assistance and fighting on the side of the ISIL forces in Syria and the cities of Mambij, Kobani, Raqqa and Al-Bab, within the “Bejt Commandos” Unit (subsequently renamed as “El Aqsa”) against the legitimate military forces of the state of Syria. In addition, the accused Jasmin Keserović, wearing a military uniform and armed with an automatic rifle, sent a message to the public via media, by which he directly encouraged the commission of the criminal offense of Terrorism under Article 201(1) of the CC BiH by way of attacks on the civilian population and killings, stated the BiH Court.
