SARAJEVO, February 25 (FENA) - Head of the Laboratory for Molecular Genetic and Forensic Research at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Sarajevo, Teufik Goletić, warned at today's press conference of the Crisis Staff of the FBiH Ministry of Health that ten different coronavirus strains are currently circulating in the Federation of BiH, while British and Czech strains stand out in particular.
"Sequencing recorded the circulation of ten different coronavirus strains. In recent days, you could read that the situation with coronavirus in the Czech Republic has become particularly complicated, their health care system cannot treat an adequate number of people, so some of their patients are relocated to Germany. We are looking for a way to continue sequencing so that it becomes part of the coronavirus circulation monitoring system in FBiH and the country as a whole. UNDP responded positively to us in the context of the procurement of chemicals and kits," said Goletić.
As of February 25, a total of 84,365 cases of coronavirus infection have been confirmed in the Federation of BiH since the beginning of the pandemic, and 2,655 deaths have been recorded so far.
According to the head of the Epidemiology Service of the FBiH Public Health Institute, Sanjin Musa, the increase in the daily number of new cases continues, as does the trend of a resurgence of the disease.
In the last seven days, 2,472 cases of Covid-19 were reported to the FBiH Institute of Public Health, which makes the incidence of 113 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
