SARAJEVO, March 1 (FENA) - Speaker of the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina and President of the Party of Democratic Action (SDA) Bakir Izetbegović warned that it is not good what Bosnia and Herzegovina has experienced regarding the COVAX mechanism in relation to the procurement of coronavirus vaccines, but announced that the delivery of vaccines should start soon.

“They should have made sure that the vaccine was given on time to the countries with less influence, which paid for the vaccine. I am sure that there were problems on their part, because why are they sending us a letter on February 22, at a time when they were supposed to deliver hundreds of thousands of doses of vaccines to Bosnia and Herzegovina. Why then a letter that we have to issue some additional documents and guarantees, in relation to COVAX,” Izetbegović pointed out in a statement to the press.

He also pointed out the reactions of the authorities. Instead of, as he said, the BiH Ministry of Civil Affairs supplementing the documents on the same day, they are asking for the consent of the entities.

“Next is up to us, we stand for ten days. But these things will be overcome and I think that in the first half of March, the delivery of vaccines to Bosnia and Herzegovina will finally start,” he pointed out.

As he announced, the members of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina will talk by phone these days with the Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adhan Ghebreyesus, regarding the delivery of vaccines to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“All countries at the same time, are looking for the same thing. That s bound to cause certain problems so that those who have more influence simply get the vaccine sooner and in larger numbers,” Izetbegović pointed out.

The Global Anticovid Vaccine Distribution Program (COVAX) is designed to ensure the availability of COVID-19 vaccines in low- and middle-income countries. It is an important mechanism that aims to provide poor countries with equal, rapid and equitable access to vaccines.
