SARAJEVO / ANKARA, March 3 (FENA) - Minister of Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina Sifet Podžić today, on behalf of the Council of Ministers of BiH, signed in Ankara the Agreement on Military-Financial Cooperation between the Council of Ministers of BiH and the Government of Turkey and the Implementing Protocol on Financial Assistance, which provides 200 million Turkish lira (45 million KM) for the Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces of BiH (BiHAF).
On behalf of the Government of the Republic of Turkey, the Turkish Minister of Defense Hulusi Akar signed the mentioned documents, and their implementation will last for the next five years.
The Protocol also determines the principles for the implementation of part of the financial assistance in the amount of 3.5 million Turkish lira, which the Government of the Republic of Turkey donates to the BiH Defense Department for training and courses for members of the MoD and BiH AF in Turkey.
This ensured the continuation of the BiHAF modernization process, and thus a good basis for strengthening the capacity and ability of BiHAF members to perform legally defined tasks and achieve a higher level of interoperability with NATO forces, the BiH Ministry of Defense said.
A delegation from the Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina, led by BiH Defense Minister Sifet Podžić, is in an official visit to the Republic of Turkey from March 2nd to 6th.
Before signing the mentioned documents, during the official meeting, the ministers discussed current events and bilateral defense cooperation.
Podžić thanked Minister Akar for the assistance and support provided by the Republic of Turkey to the MoD and the BiHAF, especially in terms of long-term financial assistance, by enabling the training of our staff in military educational institutions of the Republic of Turkey, for contributing to peace and stability in BiH and assistance in the process of European and Euro-Atlantic integration, as well as contributing to regional stability and security.
Also, Podžić informed his colleague Akar about the current status of the document "BiH Reform Program" and the degree of realization of tasks from the defense department.
