BiH Court: Godinjak, Šarić and Bunoza acquitted of war crimes charges in Trnovo

SARAJEVO, March 4 (FENA) - The Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina pronounced today a trial judgment in the case of Edhem Godinjak et al. acquitting the accused Edhem Godinjak, Medaris Šarić and Mirko Bunoza of the charges that they committed the criminal offense of war crimes against civilians and the criminal offense of war crimes against prisoners of war, announced the BiH Court. 

The accused are acquitted of the charges that during the war and the armed conflict in BiH between the Army of BiH and the Army of the RS, between May 1992 and July 1993, Edhem Godinjak in his capacity as Head of the Trnovo Public Security Station, member of the Trnovo Municipal Assembly’s War Presidency, Head of the Trnovo Territorial Defense Staff; Medaris Šarić, in his capacity as Trnovo Territorial Defense Staff Commander; and Mirko Bunoza as commander of HV-HOS units, knowingly and willingly participated in a joint criminal enterprise with a common design of multiple murder of Serb civilians in the villages located in the Trnovo municipality, their unlawful arrest and incarceration in detention facilities set up in the territory of Trnovo municipality and setting their property ablaze, and committing the killing and inhumane treatment of the captured Republika Srpska army members in the detention facilities set up in the territory of Trnovo municipality.

The accused are acquitted of charges that, in violation of the rules of international law in the time of war and armed conflict, they planned, ordered, aided and abetted in planning, preparing and committing the killings, deliberate infliction of heavy bodily and mental pain and suffering, unlawful detention of civilians, and that, in violation of the rules of international law concerning prisoners of war, they planned, ordered, aided and abetted in planning, preparing and committing the killings, deliberate infliction of heavy bodily and mental pain and suffering, inhumane treatment and infliction of great pain and suffering, bodily injuries and violation of health.
