SARAJEVO, March 4 (FENA) – A cooperation program between Switzerland and Bosnia and Herzegovina for the period 2021”2024ž was presented today in Sarajevo. The program is an expression of Switzerland's commitment to continue the long-standing partnership with BiH.

The presentation of the Swiss Cooperation Program was attended by guests from Switzerland and BiH. Friends and partners of Switzerland in BiH were addressed in an introductory address by the Director-General of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) Ambassador Patricia Danzi, Swiss Ambassador to BiH Daniel Hunn, BiH Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Bilateral Relations Ahmet Halilović and Davor Bošnjak, Chief of Cabinet Minister of Civil Affairs of BiH, while the Director of the Cooperation Program at the Swiss Embassy in BiH Barbara Dätwyler Scheuer presented the results achieved in the past period and announced the focus of the Cooperation Program in the next four years.

“This is really an emotional journey for me. I was here for the first time 25 years ago when this country still needed humanitarian aid, and that is also the period when the Swiss Development Agency came here to support BiH. Today, as the General Director of SDC, I am really proud that we continue to support this country in a different way, through innovative partnerships with entrepreneurs, mayors, and all those who work together on development,“ said Ambassador Patricia Danzi.

Ambassador Daniel Hunn said that the Swiss partnership with Bosnia and Herzegovina has lasted for more than 25 years and that in the future they will strive to intensify relations, especially in the area of contacts from the economy and investments.

“In order to attract more investors, BiH must offer a better business environment. With the new phase of our cooperation program, which we are currently launching, we want to support the efforts of the BiH authorities at all levels, in order to develop an attractive climate for investment. In the next phase of our cooperation, we want to focus even more on change-makers, partners who want to engage and commit to reform processes for the benefit of Bosnia and Herzegovina and its peoples,“ he stressed.

Barbara Dätwyler Scheuer, Director of the Cooperation Program at the Swiss Embassy in BiH, expressed her wish that citizens be even more at the center of their work in the future.

“We want to get in touch with politicians and decision-makers who show a sincere commitment to this beautiful country, we want to engage with citizens, entrepreneurs who strive to fight general apathy, and we want to work more with young people,“ she said.

In the conversation with the partners from BiH, they discussed how to achieve positive changes through the engagement of citizens. The Mayor of Gradiška, Zoran Adžić, spoke about the importance of the engagement of citizens at the municipal level. Gradiška is involved in the development projects of the Government of Switzerland in BiH.

SDC Director-General Patricia Danzi spoke about the importance of Swiss international cooperation, while SDC Eastern Europe Cooperation Head Ruth Huber focused on the relevance of the Swiss Development Program in the Western Balkans and BiH.

“It is really wonderful to be here on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Swiss cooperation in BiH. I had the opportunity to meet with a number of partner institutions and see concrete results of cooperation. Contributing to development is very important not only because there is a geographical proximity of the two countries, but also because there are really close cultural and social ties between our countries. Therefore, it is very important for us to contribute to stability, prosperity and development. Since it does not happen overnight, we remain committed to that purpose,“ said Ruth Huber.

The presentation of the new Swiss Cooperation Program ended with the presentation of the Youth Advisory Board at the Swiss Embassy in BiH, which consists of 10 young people aged 16 to 22 from all parts of BiH.

Over the past 25 years, Switzerland has invested more than 1.2 billion KM in BiH in development projects that support the engagement of women and men in BiH in shaping government policies for public services that are efficient, sustainable and inclusive, for economic growth and greater employment and for better health care for all.

Switzerland is the third-largest donor in BiH. In the next four years, it will provide another 142 million KM for specific development projects that will have a direct impact on the lives of people in BiH, the organizers said.
