SARAJEVO, March 5 (FENA) - After a meeting with members of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Sarajevo today, President of the Republic of Slovenia Borut Pahor told reporters that Slovenia has traditionally been, is and will be an ally of the European Union's enlargement to the Western Balkans.
He said that his opinion, which has been confirmed over the years, "is that the enlargement of the EU to the Western Balkans is the ultimate geopolitical issue and that it is important for peace, the security of the people of the Western Balkans and EU countries."
He added that the strategic decision on faster inclusion of the entire Western Balkans is very important for the EU and the countries of the Western Balkans.
Today, Pahor talked with the members of the Presidency of BiH, among other things, about the Brdo-Brioni summit, which should be held at the end of this or the beginning of next month in Slovenia.
“I expect that we will have an open discussion in which we will understand that we are responsible for running our countries and that as neighbors we are responsible for good mutual relations, that we are obliged to help, that we must understand differences, but that we must try to overcome them,” Pahor said and added that this was the message of today's meeting, which, he said, was primarily a friendly conversation.
Asked about the migrant crisis, Pahor answered that, as far as migration is concerned, he has always been and will always be a supporter of the policy of a common, unified approach of the European Union.
“We have a positive experience from joint action. It seems to me that we have realized that something more needs to be done at the EU's external borders. We need to talk together and look for a solution. Slovenia, like other countries, will do everything in terms of illegal migration to solve this problem as agreed at the EU level,” said Pahor, who is on an official visit to BiH today.
