Bosniak representatives sign statement on position of returnees and Srebrenica

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, March 7 (FENA) - Raisu-l-ulama of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina Husein ef. Kavazović called for a meeting between the highest Bosniak state and political representatives at various levels of government and the leadership of the Islamic Community on March 4 in Sarajevo. After the meeting, the participants signed a joint statement on the position of returnees in the BiH entity of Republika Srpska (RS), and especially in Srebrenica.

On this occasion, Raisu-l-ulama Kavazović told MINA that he felt the need to mediate among those government officials at various levels who can help find policies that will be a concrete answer after the recent events in the RS entity, especially attempts that Croats and other citizens of non-Serb nationality are eliminated from political life and the process of the so-called ethnic cleansing, especially in Srebrenica as a place of genocide.

The statement was signed by Bosniak member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Šefik Džaferović, Prime Minister of the Federation of BiH Fadil Novalić, and presidents of political parties SDA, SBB and NIP Bakir Izetbegović, Fahrudin Radončić and Elmedin Konaković. SDP President Nermin Nikšić attended the meeting but did not sign the statement, announced MINA.

The signatories obliged to overcome all party interests in the future political activities of pro-Bosnian parties in the BiH entity of RS and to put the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the foreground, especially its citizens who are returnees to the BiH entity of RS.

They also stated that when forming the budget of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina and both entities, cantons and municipalities, they will require an annual allocation for support to returnees in the amount of 0.2% to 2% and provide unconditional institutional health care to returnees to the BiH entity of RS in the Federation of BiH.

Besides, they will make a study and a plan to open BiH school centers in the entity of RS, so that returnee children would not suffer discrimination in learning their language and national subject group.

They also stated that they would insist on the adoption of the Law on Restitution at the level of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina and on the signing of the Agreement between the Islamic Community and the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina, because the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina as the largest religious community has no agreement with the state.

When it comes to Srebrenica, they have made a special commitment to make and adopt a special comprehensive plan for the revitalization of Srebrenica "Srebrenica 2030" within 60 days, which will be selflessly supported by all state institutions, political parties, non-governmental organizations and the general public. The plan must include a 10-year projection of political, economic and cultural activities in Srebrenica with clearly stated goals and a way of measuring the achieved results.

The signatories will insist on the adoption of a new statute for Srebrenica, which would ensure equality in the representative and executive branches, i.e. that Srebrenica has a special status within RS and BiH and be declared a region of special European importance.
