IOM's documentary “U pokretu – On the Move” brings personal stories of migrants

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, March 14 (FENA) - The documentary film “U pokretu – On the Move” presents personal life stories of migrants and refugees staying at temporary reception centers in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The film “U pokretu – On the Move” is a project activity of the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) supported by the European Union. The idea behind the film is to show people on the move from different countries in a different light. Most risk their lives on a long and uncertain journey and they all share the same goal of finding a better and safer life. There are many hard-working and good people with ambitions, goals and dreams in temporary reception centers.

Through emotional stories, viewers will have an opportunity to meet the people who are currently, or have in the past stayed in temporary reception centers in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Some of them have lost everything and the only thing they have left is the hope that they will reach their desired destinations. Others would like the stay and live in Bosnia and Herzegovina if they were given the chance to do so. “I’m a doctor”, “I just want a normal future and a family”, “The looks some people give me, not all, but some, they hurt”, these are just some of the things migrants from temporary reception centers said.

Soffian, a musician from Morocco, says that 90% of migrants are good people, but the 10% who aren’t, give everyone a bad name. Amir finds comfort in drawing and painting wall art, his works are in the rooms and on the walls of the Balažuj center. Rejhan says he would like to play for a European club. In Bangladesh, he was one of the best players on the national team. He says he would give it his all and it would give him an opportunity for a better future. Elmar comes from Afghanistan, he has two degrees and speaks five languages. He volunteers at the temporary reception center in Cazin.

Mohammed is an English professor from Iran who talks about how difficult the journey has been and how they all had to decide to go, knowing what was in store for them. He talks about how difficult it is to see how some people look at you and how difficult it is to have no identity and no possibility to do anything legally.

We hope these life stories will help us get to know these people on the move, broaden our horizons and our understanding for those who want a better and safer future. The European Union, IOM and partners continue to provide support to authorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina for managing migration in the country. Funding for the project “EU Support to Migration and Border Management in BiH” is provided through a special measure of the Instrument for Pre-accession Assistance (IPA). The project is implemented by IOM in partnership with UNHCR, UNICEF, UNFPA and the Danish Refugee Council (DRC), stated the IOM.
