MOSTAR / SARAJEVO, March 19 (FENA) - For the first time in 27 years, former detainees at the HVO "Heliodrom" camp in Mostar gathered in front of the complex's gates to mark the anniversary of the former camp's closure.
Although announced, the marking of the closing of the Heliodrom camp, as stated by the former detainees, did not go as planned, because they found a closed and padlocked gate.
President of the Association of Detainees of Mostar, Emir Hajdarović, stated that the employees of the Faculty of Natural and Mathematical Sciences did not allow them to enter and approach the building that is not currently used.
“We would not jeopardize the teaching or any other activities. Indeed, this is a shameful act of an educational institution that should educate people to be good people, and not to be like their current leaders,” said Hajdarović.
Hajdarović called on the Association of Croat Detainees to jointly mark all places, the places of the suffering of all detainees in the Croatian National Theater and Herzegovina, to close the doors of history, without recurring to any people in this area.
They point out that about 10,000 people passed through the Heliodrom camp. Among them, the then minor Amer Đulić.
The laid flowers remained in place for only half an hour. Immediately after the departure of the former detainees, the flowers were removed and the gate was opened, the Sarajevo Canton Memorial Fund said.
