SARAJEVO, March 22 (FENA) - Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of Bosnia and Herzegovina Staša Košarac will propose to the Council of Ministers of BiH (BiHCoM) to consider the decision on introduction of levies and customs rates on imports of fresh and chilled beef and pork from the European Union (EU) for a period of two years.
He announced that today he would send an urgency to the Collegium of the Council of Ministers of BiH to include this item on the agenda of the upcoming session.
“We received the opinions of all competent institutions, except one. Notwithstanding the lack of opinion and obvious obstructions, I will suggest to colleagues that we consider the introduction of safeguards. The need of certain institutions to delay procedures does not give us the right to remain silent on the justified demands of our farmers. Therefore, I will propose to the Council of Ministers of BiH to vote for the introduction of levies and customs rates, appreciating the need to react urgently and protect domestic production,” said Košarac.
According to him, the conditions for the introduction of the proposed protective measures have been met, given the fact that primary producers from the RS and FBiH are additionally endangered by the consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic and unfair competition from outside.
“I expect that the Council of Ministers of BiH will support the proposed measures in order to protect domestic production. BiH CoM Chairman Zoran Tegeltija also supported all previous efforts to introduce levies and customs rates. This is the best measure by which we will protect our producers, and enable them to continue and develop production. That is why I call on my colleagues to support this decision, for which I will vote myself,” said Košarac, the Ministry announced.
