Rao: Pakistan Resolution of 23rd March 1940 was triumph of an idea

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, March 23 (FENA) - Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Muhammad Khalid Rao, sent a message on the occasion of Pakistan Day (March 23).

"This day carries huge significance in the history of Pakistan. Pakistan Day is celebrated every year to commemorate the valiant struggle and sacrifices that the founding fathers of Pakistan had made for attaining a separate homeland for the Muslims of the Indian Subcontinent. The history of this day can be traced back to 1940, when during a historic session of the then All India Muslim League (Pakistan’s founding political party), under the charismatic leadership of the Muhammad Ali Jinnah, founder of Pakistan, passed the Pakistan Resolution that served as the blueprint laying down the objective of Pakistan in clear and unambiguous terms," stated Ambassador Rao in his message.

He quotes Stanley Wolpert, a renowned American historian, who wrote the following words about Muhammad Ali Jinnah:

"Few individuals significantly alter the course of history. Fewer still modify the map of the world. Hardly anyone can be credited with creating a nation-state. Mohammad Ali Jinnah did all three".

"It was with the above resolution as a political manifesto, that the Muslims of British Indian Empire under the leadership of Jinnah focused their energies on realizing their dream of achieving Pakistan. Finally, the Muslims of British Indian Empire managed to achieve their cherished goal of Pakistan on 14 August 1947, seven years after the passage of the Pakistan Resolution. March 23 serves as a reminder for the entire Pakistani nation that while it has achieved a lot as a nation since 1947 in all facets of social and economic life, a lot remains to be done ahead, in order to realize the ultimate dream of the founding fathers, i.e. to ensure a prosperous and peaceful life for Pakistanis," the Ambassador emphasized.

He said that Pakistan is not just the name of a geographical or political entity.

"It is indeed an ideal, and an aspiration to actualize the very best virtues of humanity as bequeathed by our great religion, Islam. In a world that is ridden with conflict and inequality, the need for this message is that peace is needed more than ever before. While Pakistanis pay homage to the vision and sacrifices of Pakistan’s founding fathers on Pakistan Day, their hearts go out for 8 million Kashmiris (who wanted to opt to join Pakistan) besieged by the Indian occupation forces in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) who continue to suffer huge adversities for the crime of yearning for freedom. Pakistan would, however, continue to stand by Kashmiri brethren, with all its political, diplomatic and moral force, till they get their right of self-determination as promised to them by the United Nations," the Pakistani Ambassador to BiH pointed out.

He also used this opportunity to highlight an important guiding principle of Pakistan’s foreign policy that traces its origins to the spirit of Pakistan Resolution i.e. to preserve and strengthen goodwill and friendly relations among all nations.

"It is these guiding principles that have continued to define the friendly relations between Pakistan and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Bosnia and Herzegovina remains an important friendly country for Pakistan in the region. Our historical ties are based on mutual trust and cordiality. On this occasion of Pakistan Day, while the entire Pakistani nations reiterated its commitment to building Pakistan as per the aspirations of the forefathers, I would like to wish Pakistan’s continued commitment to peace, prosperity and continued progress as well as stability of Bosnia and Herzegovina. May Allah keep Pakistan and Bosnia as well as the entire humankind safe and prosperous," it is stated in the message sent by the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to BiH Muhammad Khalid Rao on the occasion of the National Day of Pakistan.
