Turković: I hope that BiH will get a chance to become a full OIC member

SARAJEVO, March 23 (FENA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina Bisera Turković, during her visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, held separate meetings in Jeddah with representatives of the OIC, IDB and the KSA-BiH Business Council.

Minister Turković spoke with the Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Yousef bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen and expressed hope that BiH, which currently has observer status, would have the opportunity to become a full member of the OIC.

During the meeting, they also discussed the procurement of vaccines and the migrant crisis in BiH, and it was agreed that the OIC, in accordance with its capabilities, will contribute when it comes to resolving the migrant crisis.

The Minister was informed that Bosnia and Herzegovina, although not a full member of the OIC, can apply for Solidarity Fund projects within the OIC.

At the meeting with the President of the Islamic Development Bank, Bandar Hajjar, it was emphasized that it is important for BiH to become a member of the OIC, and thus of the Islamic Development Bank, which would give access to funds and loans, which has not been the case so far.

Hajjar emphasized that, although BiH is not a full member, IDB will continue to assist Bosnia and Herzegovina through projects, primarily BBI Bank, Sarajevo Business Forum and Halal Forum.

Advisor to the President of the IDB, Hayat Sindi, presented the projects that the IDB is working on in BiH, aimed at promoting talents and innovative ideas, and empowering women and youth.

She praised BiH potentials in the IT sector, and expressed interest in continuing cooperation with the Embassy of BiH.

Minister Turković also met with the Co-Chair of the KSA-BiH Business Council Khalid A. Othman and a representative of the Council of Saudi Chambers Sami M. Abdulghani.

They discussed the possibilities for investing in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It was pointed out that there is a lot of potential for cooperation of businesses stressing the need to remove barriers that make it difficult to invest in BiH, and to simplify procedures and legislation in this area.

They also touched upon visa liberalization between the two countries, and Minister Turković presented the areas of industry in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which have great potential for investment, but also for placing products on the Saudi Arabian market, stated the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of BiH.
