Bassuener: International community can carry out democratic processes in BiH

SARAJEVO, March 28 (FENA) - Co-founder of the Democratization Policy Council from Berlin, Kurt Bassuener, believes that the international community relies on liberal democracy and has all the tools to carry out democratic processes in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

He said this at the regular session of Circle 99, talking about the topic "Can and should BiH be civic? (The role of the international community in supporting the oligarchy)".

Bassuener argues that the international community is a very broad term, but that illiberal forces in BiH are much stronger today than they were 20 years ago.

“Despite the strength, I think that the international community has fallen under policies that are tactical and transitional and that do not contribute to the given purpose. An example of that is the Election Law of BiH and certain changes in the Constitution advocated by the President of the Croat Democratic Union (HDZ) Dragan Čović and the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD) Milorad Dodik,” he assessed.

He believes that the greatest ambition of the Western powers is for BiH not to be a problem anymore and not to be mentioned as a problem in the European Union.

Bassuener also referred to his recently defended doctoral dissertation on "Peace Cartels - International Mediation in the Division of Power and the Eternal Oligarchy in BiH and North Macedonia."

President of Circle 99, Adil Kulenović, believes that this topic represents the continuity of Circle 99's activities when it comes to the civil organization of BiH.
