Novalić: FBiH Government works 24 hours a day to get vaccines

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, March 29 (FENA) - Prime Minister of the Federation of BiH Fadil Novalić and Deputy Prime Minister of FBiH Vesko Drljača held a meeting with cantonal prime ministers today via video link and defined joint activities and measures to mitigate the worsened epidemiological situation caused by coronavirus throughout the Federation of BiH.

Prime Minister Novalić informed the cantonal prime ministers that the procurement of vaccines for citizens in the FBiH is the priority in the work of the FBiH Government and that the Government is working on this issue 24 hours a day.

“We have held talks with the embassies of the USA, China and Russia, but also with other embassies whose countries produce the vaccine. We have received certain information and instructions, and we have already sent the requested letters to China, as well as requests, to directly enter the process of procuring vaccines. Given that Pfizer continues to insist on negotiations directly with the state, we will urge the Council of Ministers of BiH to immediately start negotiations for the needs of procurement of vaccines for the Federation of BiH. We have included other mechanisms, sent letters and requests to other addresses, and we have not given up on the procurement of Sputnik V vaccines. In the next two to three days, we expect at least one positive response,” Prime Minister Novalić emphasized.

Information on the epidemiological situation in FBiH, on March 29, was also presented at the meeting. According to data at the FBiH level, the seven-day incidence is 344 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants, and the highest incidence was recorded in Herzegovina-Neretva (778), West Herzegovina (757) and Bosnia-Podrinje Canton (716). Weekly indicators, among other things, show that in the FBiH the number of new confirmed cases increased by 13.5 percent, and the number of hospitalized patients by 5.6 percent.

Cantonal prime ministers, presenting new data on the epidemiological situation in the cantons, pointed to an increasing number of hospitalized patients with a more severe clinical picture. They welcomed the activities undertaken by the FBiH Government in the procurement of vaccines presented at today's meeting.

Summarizing the submitted proposals and recommendations, they agreed that it is necessary to extend the existing epidemiological measures and to strengthen the supervision over their implementation. It was concluded that the request for enhanced border control, following the worsened epidemiological situation, and the need to introduce a negative coronavirus test for entering BiH, especially for the upcoming religious holidays, should be sent to the BiH Council of Ministers.

On the occasion of the upcoming religious holidays, the prime ministers of the Federation of BiH concluded that Prime Minister Novalić would send a letter on their behalf to the religious communities in BiH with a request to take additional necessary activities and appeals to believers to respect measures in times of worsening epidemiological situation.

At the suggestion of the Prime Minister of the Una-Sana Canton Mustafa Ružnić, given the increased number of infected migrants in this canton, the Crisis Staff of the FBiH Ministry of Health will be asked to propose additional measures to combat the spread of viruses caused mainly by their movement, the Press Service of the FBiH Government announced.
