Gudeljević: BiH expects significant portion of vaccines

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, April 1 (FENA) - BiH Minister of Civil Affairs Ankica Gudeljević participated today in an online coordination meeting dedicated to the response to Covid-19 in BiH, where she pointed out that health systems are making great efforts to achieve a timely and valid response to the pandemic.

The UN Resident Coordinator in Bosnia and Herzegovina Ingrid Macdonald also attended the meeting, as well as representatives of the World Health Organization and UNICEF in BiH Fabio Scano and Rownak Khan and representatives of relevant institutions in BiH.

When it comes to the vaccination process, Gudeljević said that in accordance with the competencies in the health sector, the institutions of the Federation of BiH, Republika Srpska and Brčko District of BiH have developed vaccination plans that define priority groups, dynamics and other elements of the immunization process.

“Unfortunately, BiH currently has a minimum amount of vaccines against Covid-19 that are provided through donations from friendly countries or obtained through the Covax mechanism. According to official information we currently have, another 82,400 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine are expected to arrive through the Covax mechanism by the end of May, and a new delivery of 100,620 doses of Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine for BiH will follow in the second quarter of this year,” said Gudeljević.

BiH, she added, expects significant portion of vaccines from the EU mechanism called "EU for Health", within which the needs for 892,000 doses of vaccines have been expressed. In the first procurements under this mechanism, and by the end of April 2021, a significant number of doses of BioNTech/Pfizer vaccine is expected to be allocated for the Western Balkans from the Republic of Austria as well as 380,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine from the Republic of Poland, announced the Ministry of Civil Affairs of BiH.
