SDP BiH: We need a law to prevent the possibility of blocking the elections

SARAJEVO, April 5 (FENA) - The Social Democratic Party (SDP) caucus in the House of Representatives of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly will send a law to an urgent parliamentary procedure to prevent a possible blockade of the general elections in 2022.

At the press conference, MP Saša Magazinović stated that the SDP caucus is doing this because it has information about a very possible scenario of rejection of the budget of BiH institutions in the next year as a way to block the elections.

The law proposed by the SDP lawmakers, according to Magazinović, contains a mechanism to prevent the blockade. He hopes that it will be approved by a majority of colleagues from other parties in the BiH Parliamentary Assembly.

The full title of the act is the Bill on Amendments to the Law on Financing of Institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the essential provision is that the holding of the general elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina can be ensured during the interim financing.

"During the interim financing, it is possible to finance the holding of general and local elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina in accordance with the Election Law of Bosnia and Herzegovina," is the quote of the SDP's proposal.

"All parliamentary political parties at the level of BiH should participate in the negotiations for the amendment of the Election Law. The negotiation process should be transparent, so that the media, the public and NGOs can have full insight. All activities related to the negotiations will take place in the building of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH.

The result of the negotiations will be the implementation of judgments providing for a transparent, fair and honest election process with the use of modern technologies," said Magazinović, explaining the four principles that the SDP considers necessary for conducting negotiations on changing the election legislation.

Currently, the process is completely non-transparent, taking place in a series of meetings, without informing the public or other political parties, he said.

He also points out that he was surprised by how much the international community has "balkanized itself by not reacting to such non-transparent policy-making."
