SARAJEVO, April 8 (FENA) - Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of Bosnia and Herzegovina Staša Košarac, at a press conference held today after the session of the Council of Ministers of BiH, complained that the proposed decision on introducing special protective measures on imports from the European Union was rejected, which primarily referred to fresh and chilled meat, for a period of two years.
For inexplicable reasons and without discussion, a number of ministers did not vote for the decision, said Košarac.
This decision was proposed by the Ministry headed by Košarac, and he claims that it was done on the basis of the strength of arguments, the integrated position of the association of agricultural producers and the legitimate positions of the competent institutions at the entity level.
According to Minister Košarac, the decision offered a good model for a quality solution to this issue - "to use the strength of the arguments we have as a side in a bilateral agreement with the European Union, to resolve this issue, not only temporarily but permanently."
"The arguments are on our side and there is no explanation or argument that we can accept that, say, the surrounding countries have in their Stabilization and Association Agreement with the European Union such a protective measure that when importing fresh and chilled beef and pork, there are levies and full customs rates," said Staša Košarac.
He cited the example that when importing fresh and chilled meat to North Macedonia from European Union countries, the customs rate is 15 percent and 0.05 euros per kilogram when fresh meat is imported. In Serbia, the customs rate is 12 percent.
