SARAJEVO, April 14 (FENA) – The 7th Business Forum of BiH Diaspora "BHdiaFor" was held today in an online format with the message "Diaspora returns home".
Participants expressed confidence that 2021 would be the year of Bosnia and Herzegovina's economic recovery and that the diaspora would play a key role in supporting a new step in development and economic recovery following the pandemic shock.
In his introductory address, US Ambassador to BiH Eric Nelson said the forum is an important and well-timed opportunity to consider ways to increase diaspora investment that would create new jobs.
“Members of BiH diaspora already have a great influence on the communities they come from because they have a better insight into the situation on the ground and are willing to invest where others have not,” Nelson pointed out.
He added that the impact of investments from the diaspora is most visible in small local communities that have problems attracting common forms of investment.
Prime Minister of the Sarajevo Canton, Edin Forto, stated that the Government of SC plans to open a technology park for IT companies in which they could work, cooperate and educate future staff.
USAID is the sponsor of this year's meeting through the "Diaspora Invest" project, which has supported more than 140 companies launched in the last four years thanks to the initiative or direct investment of BiH diaspora.
