SARAJEVO, April 26 (FENA) - As part of 19 cross-border projects, there were more than 5,500 direct beneficiaries through 40 local youth projects in 33 municipalities, it was said today at a press conference when the results of the Joint Regional Program "Dialogue for the Future: Fostering Dialogue and Social Cohesion in, and between Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and the Republic of Serbia" were presented.
The overall goal of this two-year program was to create more space for constructive dialogue between various communities and citizens and elected representatives, thus promoting peaceful coexistence, increased trust and respect for diversity.
The Joint Regional Program "Dialogue for the Future" was implemented by UNDP, UNICEF and UNESCO, with the support of the offices of the UN Resident Coordinators in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and the Republic of Serbia, and with financial support from the United Nations Peacebuilding Fund (PBF).
As reminded by the UNDP Resident Representative in BiH Steliana Nedera, the joint regional program began implementation in January 2019, which included capacity building of young people, empowerment of girls and women, training of teachers, librarians, journalists and editors on media and information literacy and objective reporting.
“More than 1,500 people from all areas of civil society, academies, youth representatives, the public sector and the administration have set priorities for social cohesion, which has resulted in seven topics and 19 cross-border grants,” Nedera underlined.
All the efforts, she added, that have been made and the successes that followed despite all the challenges including the coronavirus pandemic have shown how much can be achieved when working together.
