SARAJEVO, April 27 (FENA) - The House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH did not express support for the principles of the Draft Law on Amendments to the Election Law of BiH, which was previously adopted by the House of Representatives and sent to the House of Peoples discussion, which implies the right of a deputy to, under certain circumstances, put the mandate on hold and to reactivate it until its expiration.
MP in the House of Representatives Saša Magazinović (SDPBiH), on whose proposal the law was adopted at the House, explained the proposed solutions to the House of Peoples, saying that he was motivated by the situation on the ground where a large number of people are both ministers and MPs.
"While searching for a solution, we came decided to use the model of the Republic of Croatia and introduce the institute of suspension of the parliamentary mandate, which was unquestionably won in the elections. Because of the situation as it is, you have people who are in multiple roles. You have deputies who are also ministers at the same time," stated Magazinović.
He added that this was made possible by the Election Law, which is something that could happen in a transitional period, "but that transitional period lasts a little longer in our country."
Deputy Speaker of the House of Peoples Dragan Čović (Croat People's Caucus) said that most of what Magazinović said was acceptable, "but basically we will be against this proposal today."
He explained that the changes that would eventually be adopted in the second reading of this text, would be applicable only after the next elections.
The deputy from the Bosniak People's Caucus, Denis Bećirović, said that we witnessed how absurd the situation was even after these elections, that the same people held ministerial positions in the executive power, and at the same time chaired or were deputies in the legislative bodies.
