FENA Vanja Tolj

SARAJEVO, April 27 (FENA) - Director of the Public Health Institute of the Federation of BiH Davor Pehar emphasized today that immunization is one of the world's greatest medical achievements of the 20th century, which saves between two and three million lives a year.

At today's press conference on the occasion of the European Immunization Week, Pehar emphasized that we need to speak louder and more often about the importance of immunization.

"Especially when the data for last year are not encouraging and when we are concerned about the data that the coverage of immunized children has dropped significantly. Now we are threatened by the return of diseases that could have been prevented by vaccination. We must not forget the importance of immunization," said Pehar.

He points out that behind each vaccine lies the work of thousands of experts, years of dedicated work and research of those who have made vaccines an affordable, safe and effective protection against infectious diseases.

"Vaccination programs have made a huge contribution to the overall health and life expectancy of people. The importance of immunization for public health is invaluable and that is why we must all work on its promotion and emphasize its importance," concluded Pehar.
