Improving the capacity of civil protection institutions in BiH

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, April 29 (FENA) - At the ceremony held on the U.S. Embassy compound in Sarajevo today, Chargé d'Affaires, Ellen Germain, handed over a valuable donation to the representatives of the Civil Protection Agencies in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which will further enhance the capabilities of these agencies to provide needed protection and assistance to the citizens of BiH.

The United States European Command, acting through the Embassy's Office of Defense Cooperation, has funded the procurement of three customized Command Post Vehicles. The total cost of this donation is approximately USD 450,000.

Today, these vehicles were handed over to the representatives of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina Civil Protection Agency, the Republika Srpska Civil Protection Agency, and the Brčko District Civil Protection Agency.

These vehicles will be used as mobile Command Posts for a wide range of applications to include Disaster Response, Rescue Operations, Hazardous Materials Response, and Explosive Ordnance Disposal teams.

With these vehicles, the Civil Protection Agencies will be able to respond better and more quickly to disasters by transporting personnel and equipment and setting up command posts anywhere in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

This donation reflects yet another major commitment and investment by the United States in Bosnia and Herzegovina and its future, announced the US Embassy to BiH.
