Džaferović and Komšić: Fascist ideology is very much alive in BiH

SARAJEVO, May 9 (FENA) - Members of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Šefik Džaferović and Željko Komšić laid flowers at the Eternal Flame memorial today on the occasion of Victory Day over Fascism and Europe Day and said that fascist ideology, although militarily defeated, is very much alive in BiH and worldwide.

"My message is that it is extremely necessary to get serious when it comes to the attitude towards these dark ideologies. The more united Europe, respect for human rights and every human being, fighting discrimination the less of neo-fascist ideologies we will be seeing. My message to all of us in BiH is to start building a unified, democratic state - a state of equal peoples and citizens, regardless of which part of BiH they live in," said Džaferović.

In recent weeks, he recalls, we have witnessed these retrograde ideas - fascist ideas because "how else to call the intention to further divide BiH territorially and ethnically - to cut into the living tissue of BiH, but the fascist or neo-fascist ideas."

"So, we all need to understand that the future is not in separation, division and discrimination, but in the unity of diversity when it comes to both, BiH and Europe," said Džaferović.

Željko Komšić believes that fascism can only be defeated through democracy, the rule of law, transparency and free media.

"We thought that fascism was defeated in 1945. We in BiH thought that we put an end to that story at the end of 1995 and the beginning of 1996, when the Dayton Peace Agreement was signed, and then it turns out that fascism is extremely tough, because it reoccurs in various forms. Sometimes it is extreme, clearly visible to people, as it was in the Second World War and in the aggression on Bosnia and Herzegovina, and sometimes it is wrapped in the right to political opinion, ideas and so on. But that evil definitely exists because you see that the whole European continent is actually struggling with that same story - the story of fascism.

"All of this is something that every generation thinks it has left behind and every generation then faces it again. And the entire story about the "non-paper", it is classic fascism," Komšić emphasized.
