SARAJEVO, May 14 (FENA) - Chairman of the Joint Committee for Human Rights of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiHPA) Lazar Prodanović stated today that International Day of Families is an opportunity to make a special appeal to the authorities at all levels in BiH to engage more strongly in combating growing violence against women and children.
The International Day of Families is observed on the 15 May every year. The Day was proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in 1993 with resolution A/RES/47/237 and reflects the importance the international community attaches to families.
"This date is an opportunity for all of us in BiH to look at the key importance of the family as the basic foundation on which every society rests, as well as to encourage all institutions and the public in BiH to provide stronger support to families, especially those that in today's day and age face economic, health and all other social problems," Prodanović underlined.
