SARAJEVO, May 23 (FENA) - Minister of Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina Sifet Podžić, with associates, talked with the Commander of the US Ground Forces for Europe and Africa, General Christopher Cavoli and his associates.
General Cavoli is visiting Bosnia and Herzegovina to attend the "Immediate Response 21" military exercise, which is being held at three locations of the BiH Armed Forces, where members of the US Army together with members of the BiH Armed Forces are practicing activities aimed at strengthening overall capacity to train our members, as well as strengthening the degree of interoperability and joint action in a multinational environment.
At the beginning of the conversation, Minister Podžić welcomed General Cavoli as well as the decision of the US Army to carry out part of the "Immediate Response 21" exercise with the BiH Armed Forces, where 800 members of the US Army are conducting a joint exercise with BiH AF members.
Minister Podžić informed General Cavoli about the activities carried out by the BiH Ministry of Defense in the context of cooperation with NATO and fulfillment of obligations arising from the "Reform Program", as well as activities related to other tools of partnership with NATO, such as PARP, OCC , Building Integrity, DEEP - Defense Enhancement Education Program.
They also discussed joint participation in peace support operations within the "Resolute Support" mission in Afghanistan, where our members gained significant experience, strengthened operational partnerships and where we are currently coordinating the process of withdrawal and completion of this multi-year mission with our operational partners.
In the end, Minister Podžić once again thanked General Cavoli for personally attending the Immediate Response 21 exercise and stressed the fact that this approach, support and assistance to our country indicates only one fact, and that is "investing in BiH means investing in peace, security and stability, not only in BiH but in the entire region."
In his address, General Cavoli thanked Minister Podžić for the time and opportunity for this meeting and expressed strong support for our country and the reform processes that are currently being implemented, and especially emphasized the importance of the achieved types of cooperation with NATO.
In that sense, he especially emphasized the importance, role and contribution of the BiH Armed Forces in previous collective security operations, where he expressed gratitude to our country for participating in peace support operations within the Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan, in which our members side by side with members of the US Army very bravely and professionally performed their tasks and contributed to global security, said the Press Service of the BiH MoD.
