MANJAČA, May 23 (FENA) - Members of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Željko Komšić and Šefik Džaferović attended yesterday the Day of the Dignitaries within the military exercise of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Armed Forces of the United States "Immediate response 21" at Manjača.
The participants of the Day of the Dignitaries had an opportunity to see a part of the joint operational capabilities of the Armed Forces of BiH and the USA on the ground, with elements of air support.
Addressing those gathered at Manjača, BiH Presidency member Željko Komšić expressed admiration for the efforts to show the highest military standards in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which BiH needs to fulfill on order to become a full member of NATO.
He reminded that a year and a half ago, the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina adopted the Reform Program, which responded to the NATO call for BiH to actively participate in the Membership Action Plan (MAP).
“It is known that participation in MAP is only possible in one way, and that is through the submission of annual national programs, which has its own specific name for BiH - the Reform Program and that through this annual national program BiH meets complex criteria and standards that are put it before BiH,” he added.
He notes that this has begun the final path towards NATO membership, with BiH submitting a new Reform Program each year and working diligently to meet all standards until NATO assesses that all required criteria and standards have been met and invites BiH to join NATO.
“An immediate response is the best answer to those who ask questions, but also the best indicator of the direction in which to go, and that is collective security within the NATO alliance. For these reasons, the Presidency of BiH unanimously approved the participation of the Armed Forces of BiH in that exercise,” said Komšić.
He also expressed gratitude to the participants in the exercise, because what they showed actually confirmed their intentions that BiH is undeniably moving towards NATO membership, and to American partners that the BiH Armed Forces are more and more ready to accept obligations arising from membership in that military supranational organization.
That is why, he says, it is important to say that there is no place for policies of constant tension, insecurity and destabilization, because it is in everybody’s interest the future of new generations and how to provide them with a quality and stable environment in Bosnia and Herzegovina for a good, happy and successful life.
“When I look at the results in this military exercise, I am even more convinced that we have good preconditions to make this important step forward to create such conditions for BiH citizens with our partners from the international community who help and support us in our efforts,” concluded Komšić.
The Day of the Dignitaries was organized on the BiH Armed Forces Manjača training ground, with a presentation of the joint operational capabilities of the BiH Armed Forces and the US Armed Forces in the field, engaging air support by helicopters of the BiH Armed Forces.
