SARAJEVO, May 25 (FENA) - Orange Day is marked on every 25th day of the month when attention is drawn to the fight against violence against women and girls. In Bosnia and Herzegovina, according to the BiH Gender Equality Agency, every second woman over the age of 15 has experienced some form of violence.
"These negative statistics force us to be actively involved in the fight against all forms of violence against women through violence prevention, reporting of violence, education and awareness of this negative trend in our society," said the Institute for Youth Development KULT.
On that occasion, tonight, in cooperation with the city authorities in Sarajevo, Banja Luka, Mostar and Jajce, the most important institutions and sights in those cities will be illuminated in orange color.
As the KULT institute pointed out, today it is more than ever necessary to prevent violence because since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, in the first seven months of 2020, there has been a sharp increase in the number of applications for admission into the safe houses.
Comparing the figures from 2019 (347 victims) and 2020 (519 victims), in the first seven months, the number of admissions into the safe houses increased by 50 percent. The number of calls to SOS lines also increased from 2,833 to 4,158, which is an increase of 47 percent.
