SARAJEVO, May 25 (FENA) - The Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the AIRE Center - Western Balkans Program in cooperation with the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council and with the support of the British Embassy in BiH are organizing a conference "Public Access and Judicial Transparency - European Standards and Practice in BiH ".

At the press conference, organized before the forum, the President of the Constitutional Court of BiH Zlatko Knežević said that "this is yet another opportunity for representatives of the highest judicial institutions to gather at this traditional judicial forum in BiH, and the great news is that the conference will enable us to speak with the Presidents of the European Court of Justice and the United Kingdom Supreme Court online".

"This time we have decided that not only judges and court presidents shoult talk about transparency in the judicial procedure but also the media," Knežević said.

Director of the Western Balkans Program of the AIRE Center Biljana Braithwaite said that the Judicial Forum for BiH is an important part of the center's program, which it implements in cooperation with the Constitutional Court, the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council and other higher courts.

President of the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of BiH, Halil Lagumdžija, stated that this institution has taken significant steps in this regard and that the adoption of a communication strategy is underway.

"At one of the previous sessions, the HJPC adopted a Rulebook by which we significantly opened court decisions for the public. Much has been done to make court decisions available to the judicial community and the public. We have a database of more than 13,500 court decisions, which can be accessed very easily. I think that will contribute to improved quality of court decisions," said Lagumdžija.

British Ambassador to BiH Mattew Field said that the transparency of institutions is key to building a democratic society and that judicial institutions should be the major proponents of transparency.

The conference will be addressed via a video link by the President of the European Court of Human Rights Robert Spano, President of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom Lord Robert Reed and Judge of the European Court of Human Rights Faris Vehabovć.
